Russia SB1019-72727r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72727 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 1/2 Rouble (Poltina), 1820-CNB NA. St. Petersburg Mint. Alexander I. NGC MS-61. Wide Crown variety. An attractive and popular type in MINT STATE that exhibits a good strike and smooth surfaces. Lovely medium grey tone throughout with accents of slate patina amongst the devices. A tough type to locate in high grade certain to see spirited bidding." This type was struck 1810-26 and is rather expensive in collectible condition. The other assayer for 1820, ПC (Paul Stupitzyn), is noted as rare.

Recorded mintage: 1,356,000.
