from Stack's Bowers 2017 NYINC sale, lot 6743
Hungary SB117-6743r.jpg

This specimen was lot 6743 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $646.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. 2 Ducat, 1784. Kremnitz Mint. Joseph II (1780-90). PCGS Genuine--Smoothed, EF Details Secure Holder. Possibly has been used in jewelry. From the Mezo-Toth Kalman Collection." This type of 1781-87 is fairly common for a double ducat. The SCWC notes that the 1784/3 overdate is more common than the regular date. A similar single ducat (Fr-196) exists.

Recorded mintage: 31,000.

Specification: 7 g, 0.986 fine gold, .221 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-195; KM-397; H-1859.
