from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 20022
Australia SB118-20022r.jpg

This specimen was lot 20022 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Penny, 1928-(m). PCGS MS-65 RB Secure Holder. Single finest graded at PCGS with a RED/BROWN designation and none finer. There is one other example at PCGS with a full brown designation at this grade level and none with a full red designation. Nice cartwheel effect with plenty of original mint red. A lovely example sure to make its new owner proud." The SCWC notes this date as inexpensive in circulated condition but rare choice. The type was issued 1911-36.

Sterling coinage was struck for several countries besides Great Britain, including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Southern Rhodesia, Fiji and New Guinea. All converted to decimal coinage in the 1960's.

Recorded mintage: 3,038,000.

Specification: 9.41 g, bronze, 30.8 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 23.
