Sedwick sale 25, lot 16

This specimen was lot 16 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2019), where it sold for $5,950. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, cob 8 escudos, 1726M, NGC XF 45. Very bold full cross-lions-castles (flat on high points), bold full pillars-and-waves, traces of toning around details, this date actually scarcer than the previous Louis I issue of 1725. NGC #4825091-001." This type is recorded for 1710-47. The Mexico City mint was converted to milled coinage in 1732-34 but Lima would not follow suit until 1751.

Recorded mintage: 48,734.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.917 fine gold, .798 troy oz AGW, this specimen 26.97 grams.
