This specimen was lot 1082 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $6,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Karl XV. 1859–1872. AR Riksdaler Specie – 4 Riksdaler Riksmynt. Stockholm mint. Lea Ahlborn and Sebastian Tham, engravers. Dated 1867 LA ST. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Choice moderately toned uncirculated with full luster under the toning. A truly superb coin. Eight grades higher than the next graded specimen. Purchased from Randolph Zander." This type was struck 1861-71 and is somewhat common. The present dynasty is descended from Charles Bernadotte, one of Napoleon's generals who defected to Sweden. Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent during the period.
Recorded mintage: 64,000.
Specification: 34.01 g, 0.750 fine silver, lettered edge, this specimen Ø39 mm, 33.93 g, 12h axis.
Catalog reference: KM 711; Tingström 3, Dav-356.
