The first specimen was lot 2677 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AE paisa, Farrukhi, AM1217, elephant left, slight porosity on the obverse only, XF." The second specimen was lot 2337 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description^[2] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AE paisa, Farrukhi, AM1217, elephant left, date above, superb strike, XF." This type was struck years AM 1216-1219 and is common. One rupee was 64 paisa. The Mauludi Era (AM) was a calendar invented and used only by Tipu Sultan and it lapsed after his death in battle in 1799. Many mints issued these copper paisa in dozens of styles.

Specifications: 11.15-11.73 g, copper, 25 mm diameter, the first specimen 11.33 g, the second specimen 11.35 g.

Catalog reference: KM-53.2. The second specimen was catalogued as KM-53.3, which doesn't exist.
