Sincona sale 91, lot 3426

This specimen was lot 3426 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,322 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Schaffhausen, Halbbatzen 1626, Schaffhausen. Variante mit Wertzahl Z anstelle einer 2. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. Kleiner Kratzer. (Switzerland, canton of Schaffhausen, half batzen of 1626, Schaffhausen mint, variety with the value as "Z" instead of "2". Rare, Good very fine, Small scratch.)"

This type was struck in 1626 and 1698. Half a batzen was two kreuzer. The city arms depict an ibex leaping, sometimes by itself or out of a castle window (as here).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon, this specimen 1.39 g.
