Sincona sale 84, lot 525

This specimen was lot 525 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 2,400 CHF (about US$3,232 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 15 Kopecks 1903, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB AR. Very rare in this condition. Proof. Most attractively toned."

The fifteen kopeks, a quasi-decimal denomination as ten and twenty kopeks were also minted, was struck in large numbers 1867-1917. The communists struck a similar coin in .500 silver until 1931.

Recorded mintage: 16,667,000, a better date.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.500 fine silver, this specimen 2.81 g.
