This specimen was lot 147 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 6,000 CHF (about US$7,929 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN, Qajar Dynasty, Fath-'Ali Shah, 1212-1250 AH (1797-1834). Ashrafi 1212 AH (1797), Tehran Mint. 3.35 g. In the name of Baba Khan. Von grösster Seltenheit; Of the highest rarity. NGC MS65. Struck in the year of his coronation in Ashrafi standard, these coins in the name of Baba Khan in 1212 AH must have been struck just before the coronation when he changed his name to Fath-'Ali. Purchased from A. Shams, Frankfurt, in 1985."
While ashrafis were struck by the Hotaks in the 1750's, no ashrafis are listed in the SCWC for the Qajar regime; we must presume this example is very rare.
