Sincona sale 9, lot 5271
Schwabisch Hall in 1786

This specimen was lot 5271 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 1500 CHF (about US$1,897 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Aargau Dukat 1714 von Schwäbisch Hall. Auf den Frieden von Baden. Geprägt unter Schwäbisch Hall. Doppeladlerschild über zwei nebeneinander stehenden Wappenkartuschen, alles in einem Lorbeerzweiggebinde. Rv. Fünf Zeilen Schrift im Lorbeerzweiggebinde, darunter N (Georg Friedrich Nürnberger). Fast FDC. (Switzerland, Aargau, ducat of 1714, Swabian Hall mint, on the peace of Baden. Obverse: double headed eagle over two shields, laurel wreath around; reverse: five line inscription, laurel wreath around, "N" below (for George Frederick Nurnberger). Choice uncirculated.)"

The esteemed cataloguers have placed this rare issue under the canton of Aargau but the SCWC lists this under Hall (called Swabian Hall to distinguish it from Hall in Tyrol, which also minted coins).

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3,48 g.

Catalog reference: Raff. 121. Fr-1078, Schweizer Medaillen 136, KM 21.
