Steve Album sale 51, lot 2927

This specimen was lot 72448 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Swabian Hall. Uniface 1/2 Kreuzer, 1712. Karl VI. PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. A rather well struck, lustrous, and brilliant example of this uniface type not often encountered so attractive." The second specimen was lot 2927 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $102. The catalog description[2] noted, "HALL IN SWABIA: Free City, BI pfennig, 1712, uniface, two-year type, key date of the two-year type, NGC graded MS63." Schwabisch Hall (so called to distinguish it from Hall in Tyrol), was an imperial city which occasionally issued thalers, generally rare. Two types of half kreuzer exist for 1712: KM 15 is uniface (shown here, previously struck in 1696), KM 16 (very scarce) is arms obverse/inscription reverse.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon.

Catalog reference: KM 15; Raff-55.
