Austria 1912 20 corona

Sincona sale 73, lot 1765

This specimen was lot 1765 in Sincona sale 73 (Zürich, November 2021), where it sold for 7,000 CHF (about US$9,006 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. 20 Kronen 1912, Wien. Schwartz. Selten. NGC MS63. (empire of Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, twenty korona of 1912, Vienna mint. Rare, graded NGC MS63.)"

This denomination, issued 1892-1916, superseded the eight forint and was about 5% heavier. This type was struck 1909-16 but 1910 is the only common date. It varies from the prior Fr-508 by having the engraver's signature included and obverse legend uninterrupted.

Recorded mintage: 4,460 but rare.

Specification: 6.775 g, 0.900 fine gold, .196 troy oz AGW, 21 mm diameter.
