France 1727Z 1-20 ecu rev DSLR.jpg

Shown is a 1727-Z vingtième d'écu aux branches d'olivier of the Grenoble mint (mintmark "Z"). This coin was part of the great coinage reform of Cardinal Fleury which finally terminated the manipulations which had disrupted the economy since the 1690's. This date is not listed in Droulers[1], and is presumably rare, tho he mentions tenth, fifth, half and one écus from Grenoble for the year. The twentieth écu was the ancien régime version of a half dime tho never struck in sufficient numbers to really convert France to a decimal currency.

Recorded mintage: unlisted[1].

Specification: 1.47 g, 0.917 fine silver, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 856, Dr/2 № 583, KM 480.20.
