This specimen was lot 634 in Jean Elsen sale 139 (Brussels, December 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, PASSAU, Evêché, Ernst, duc de Bavière (1517-1540), AR Batzen, 1521. D/ Ecu écartelé de Bavière, sous la date. R/ B. de saint Etienne de f., ten. une palme, au-dessus de l'écu de l'évêché. Belle patine. Très Beau à Superbe. (bishopric of Passau, Ernest, duke of Bavaria (1517-40), silver batzen of 1521. Obverse: quartered arms of Bavaria, date below; reverse: bust of St. Etienne facing, bearing a palm frond, over the arms of the bishopric. Nice patina, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
The batzen is a denomination, worth four kreuzer, better known in Switzerland. The bishopric of Passau was annexed to Bavaria in 1803 and 1805.
