This specimen was lot 32180 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Crown, 1687 Year TERTIO. London Mint. James II. PCGS EF-45. Emanating from the penultimate year in the reign of the final Catholic monarch of Great Britain, this wholesome minor presents a gunmetal gray tone with some hints of golden-champagne emerging from the protected areas. Rather evenly struck and handled as well." The half crowns of James II come in two types; S-3408 (first bust, shown here) struck 1685-87 and S-3409 (second bust) struck 1687-88. Both are expensive in nice condition.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 15.05 g, 0.925 fine silver.
Catalog reference: S-3408; KM-452.
