The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Sweden|SWEDEN]]. 1/2 Ore, 1598. Stockholm Mint. Sigismund III of Poland. PCGS EF-40. This hammered piece is from the brief rule of Sweden by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth during the reign of Sigismund III, and presents well hammered details and very little evidence of wear on the gray surfaces. Sure to attract bids from both collectors of Swedish and Polish types." Sigsimund III was king of Poland 1587-1625 and king of Sweden 1592-99. His fanatical Catholicism was popular in Poland but less so in Lutheran Sweden and he was ousted by his uncle, who became Charles IX (r. 1604-11).
