from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 10082
SB225-10082r.jpg

This specimen was lot 10082 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €192 (about US$200). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Skilling, 1605. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC AU-53. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex. Johan G. Guildal Collection (Private Sale-1918)." This type was struck 1605 and 1613-16 and was worth 1/96 speciedaler. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.60 g, 0.171 fine silver, 20.2 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-29.1; Hede-80A; Sieg-21.1; Schou-12; Bruun-4700.
