This specimen was lot 25947 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description^[1] noted, "James VI Ryal (30 Shillings) 1567, 1st Coinage, VF30 NGC. An appealing example without the thistle counterstamp. A flan crack is noted as well as a significant obverse abrasion. The tone is a lovely metallic gray with purple and golden overtones." Davenport lists this type for 1567-71 and the specimen shown in his catalog displays the countermark.
