Great Britain (1645-46) shilling

This specimen was lot 2673 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description^[1] noted, "ENGLAND: Charles I, 1625-1649, AR shilling, ND (1645-6), group F, type 4.4, sixth large Briot's bust left // square-topped shield over cross moline, mintmark eye, Tower Mint issue under Parliament. very lightly cleaned, but retoning nicely on periphery, very lustrous with nice portrait, About Unc, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This type is one of over fifty shillings of Charles I depicted in the SCWC. As most lack photos or notes on identifying features such as mintmarks, the attribution to KM 112 is tentative. By 1645, Charles no longer controlled the Tower Mint and coins were made there under the authority of Parliament.
