This specimen was the first issue of this type, which is still in production as of 2024 although the last date which circulated is 2017. With US$1 = 1159 won (as of April 2019), this coin has a face value of 8.6¢. The obverse features admiral Yi Sun-Shin (1545-98), who defeated the Japanese on multiple occasions.
Recorded mintage: 40,000,000.
Specification: 5.42 g, copper-nickel, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge.
