This type was introduced in 1982. It is still in production as of 2024, altho the last date listed in the SCWC is 2012. The last date struck for circulation was 2017. With US$1 = 1159 won (as of April 2019), this coin has a face value of 43¢. The obverse features the Manchurian or red-crowned crane (Grus japonensis). Despite being endangered, it is revered as a symbol of good luck in Japan, Korea and China.

Recorded mintage: 70,000,000.

Specification: 7.7 g, copper-nickel, 26.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
