Sincona sale 51, lot 3158

This specimen was lot 3158 in Sincona sale 51 (Zurich, October 2018), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$302 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Friedrich Wilhelm, 1640-1688. 2/3 Taler 1675 IA, Halberstadt. Fast vorzüglich. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (Germany, electorate of Brandenburg, Frederick William, 1640-88, two-thirds thaler of 1675, Halberstadt mint. About extremely fine, Extraordinary condition.)"

The final third of the seventeenth century saw a profusion of issues of this denomination. This type was struck 1675-77 and is fairly common. See also issues from Minden, Berlin, Cleve, Magdeburg and Stargard.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 18.85 g.

Catalog reference: KM 447, von Schrötter 348 a. Dav-267.
