Sincona sale 51, lot 2300

This specimen was lot 2300 in Sincona sale 51 (Zurich, October 2018), where it sold for 7,500 CHF (about US$9,047 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Breslau, Stadt, Dukat 1572. Titel Maximilians II. |MO|AVR|VVRATISLAVIENSIS|15.7.2. Vierfeldiges Wappen mit dem Haupt Johannes des Täufers als Mittelschild. Rv. MAX.II.D:G.E.R.IM.S.-.A.-G.H.B.REX.D:SL. Der gekrönte und geharnischte Kaiser steht halbrechts mit Schwert, mit der Rechten das Zepter schulternd, in der Linken Reichsapfel. Sehr selten. FDC, Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Germany, city of Breslau, ducat of 1572, struck in the name of Maximilian II. Obverse: quartered arms with the head of St. John the Baptist on an escutcheon; reverse: the crowned and armored emperor stands, half right, with sword and scepter, orb in left hand. Very rare, Uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

This type is listed in Friedberg for 1572-74. Silesia fell under Austrian domination on the extinction of the Hungarian monarchy at the hands of the Ottomans in 1526.
