This specimen, struck at Mexico City, was lot 24687 in Heritage sale 3016 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $4,312.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VI gold 8 Escudos 1750-MF, XF45 NGC, bold design features with considerable original mint luster, a very appealing coin in all respects." All eight escudos of this king are rare and expensive. The reverse motto, "NOMINA MAGNA SEQUOR," is Latin for "I follow a great name [Philip V]."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.917 fine gold, .798 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-10862, KM 150.
