This specimen was lot 72425 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Farthing, 1842. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-65 Brown. Despite the brown designation, this stunning Gem featuring a youthful portrait of the young queen presents more red than would otherwise be expected." This farthing was struck 1838-60 and most dates, including this one, are readily available in circulated condition. Varieties exist.
Recorded mintage: 1,290,000, a somewhat better date.
Specification: 4.4 g, copper.
Catalog reference: S-3950; KM-725.
