Sincona sale 83, lot 2527

This specimen was lot 2527 in Sincona sale 83 (Zurich, May 2023), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$535 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA Volksrepublik, 100 Yuan 2006, Shanghai Mint. Panda. Fast FDC (About uncirculated)." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. The gold panda is one of the most popular. Prior to 2001, the quarter ounce panda was denominated 25 yuan. Other hundred yuan for 2006 include KM 1665, 1667, 1669, 1694, A979, A980.

Recorded mintage: 28,500.

Specification: 7.77 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.250 troy oz AGW, this specimen 7.78 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1659, Fr-B16.
