Switzerland 1911-B franc

Heritage sale 3049, lot 31609

This specimen was lot 31609 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Confederation Specimen Franc 1911-B SP65 PCGS, Bern mint. A sparkling pure-white example, with superb cameo contrast and minor spotting. Rare as a Specimen and one of the finer pieces extant. From the Redwood Collection, Part II." This type was struck at the Bern mint 1874-1967. The design is still in use today tho the coin is now copper-nickel. This specimen is struck to the standard of the French franc of 1866-1920. This date is a better date but not rare. Prior to confederation in 1850, each Swiss canton issued its own coins.

Recorded mintage: 1,200,000 plus specimens.

Specification: 5 g, 0.835 fine silver, 23.2 mm diameter, reeded edge.
