Sedwick Treasure Auction 35, lot 741

This specimen was lot 741 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 35 (Winter Park, FL, May 2024), where it sold for $5,100. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 8 reales, 1608/7 F, ex-Seaby, ex-Woodside. Much legend including king's ordinal III and choice full date with blatant overdate, full oMF and part of 8, cross and shield full but weaker due to unevenly thick flan, interesting folded-over piece on edge, all lightly toned, VF+. With old, original Seaby (London) envelope, and pedigreed to the Rob Woodside Collection." This type was struck 1607-21 for Philip III. Most come without date; the 1608-F is noted as scarce while the 1608-A is fairly common.
