The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA, Cartagena, gold cob 2 escudos, 1630, assayer E below mintmark C to left, dots inside and outside tressure around cross, NGC MS 61. Broad flan (odd shape) with full 30 of date outside of 100% full cross-and-tressure, the crown and shield also complete with full •C•E to left and •II• (reading vertically) to right, light orange toning all over." This rare type was struck 1628-35. During its brief existence, the mint at Cartagena produced one reales (KM A5), two reales (KM A6.3), four reales (KM 2.4), eight reales (KM 3.4) and the two escudos shown here.
