Revision as of 15:07, 5 April 2024
This specimen was lot 4763 in Sincona sale 9 (Zurich, October 2012), where it sold for 360 CHF (about US$455 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NIEDERLANDE Kampen Dukat 1652. Vorzüglich-sehr schön. (Kampen, ducat of 1652, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This specimen was catalogued as a ducat but the reported weight strongly suggests that it was a double ducat (KM 50). The SCWC does not list this date in a double ducat but Friedberg does. Absent a personal inspection, it must remain a mystery. Single ducats are mentioned for 1648-60. The coin was struck in the name of emperor Frederick III, who died in 1493.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, .112 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6,96 g.
