Jean Elsen sale 137, lot 788

This specimen was lot 788 in Jean Elsen sale 137 (Brussels, June 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

(county of Bouillon and Sedan, Henri de la Tour d'Auvergne, 1591-1623, silver écu of thirty sols, 1614, Sedan mint. Obverse: eagle displayed supporting arms with a boar, date and denomination below; reverse: quartered arms of de la Tour, Auvergne, Turenne and Bouillon with Boulogne in the center, within an ornate cartouche. Very rare, scratches on the reverse, very fine.)"

The SCWC lists this duchy under French states as the area was annexed by Louis XIV in 1678 and permanently added to France but we list this with the Bishopric of Liege which had suzerainty in the early 1600's. It's a little light to be a true thaler but it is included by tradition.

Reported Mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 18,52 g.
