This specimen was lot 32258 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $6,462.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Proof 10 Drachmai 1930 PR64 PCGS, London mint. Very rare in proof condition, with the present example exhibiting exemplary eye-appeal, the surfaces remaining fully reflective as dappled olive, gold and cyan-blue patina traverses both sides. Seemingly very conservatively graded as well, with no apparent imperfect[ion]s that would would account for a sub-Gem grade." In 1922, the Greek monarchy was overthrown as a consequence of the defeat by the Turks and a republic established which lasted until 1935. During its brief existence, a series of handsome coins was issued including this ten drachmai. A five and twenty drachmai round out the series.
Recorded mintage: 7,500,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 7 g, 0.500 fine silver, 25 mm diameter.
