This specimen was lot 23951 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "João VI Prince Regent gold 6400 Reis 1814-R, AU55 NGC. Surface a bit dull from circulation. Scarce date of the issue. From The RLM Collection, Part II." The type was struck 1805-17 with the portrait of João as Prince Regent (he later became king João VI). An 1814/3 overdate is noted.
Recorded mintage: 42,000.
Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: Russo-564, Gomes-33.21, Fr-93, KM 236.1.
