This silver eighty réis was minted at the Rio mint 1810-16. This coin would have traded for one twelfth of a peso. The specimen was lot 20473 in Heritage sale 3009 (Chicago, April 2010), where it sold for $345. The catalog description[1] noted, "João Prince Regent 80 Reis 1814R, Fine details but with pitted surfaces from oxidation, appears to be double-struck on the reverse. Rare date." The SCWC does not list any Bahia mint issues of this denomination until 1818.
