This specimen was lot 1289 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,679 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN-ALTENBURG, HERZOGTUM Josef, 1834-1848. Taler 1841. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Feine Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, Joseph, 1834-48, thaler of 1841. Rare in this grade, fine toning, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
Despite the small mintage, enough of this one year type was saved that it is today only scarce, not rare. It is the only thaler of this ruler, altho double thalers were also struck (Dav-811).
Recorded mintage: 20,000.
Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver.
Catalog reference: Dav-812; AKS 49; Kahnt 480; Thun 354, KM 19.
