The specimen shown was lot 361 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 150 euros (about US$247 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1841. Barcelona. 6 cuartos. Flores de 5 pétalos. Bella. Precioso color. Escasa así. EBC. (Six cuartos of 1841, Barcelona mint, flowers with five petals, beautiful color, scarce thus, extremely fine.)
This copper coin was issued from Barcelona for use there and in Catalonia. It was struck 1836-48 and accompanied by a copper three quartos. In the local currency, six quartos = 1/20 peso. This coin is not common but priced rather low in the SCWC. The last local Catalan issue is a rare six quartos dated 1848.
Recorded mintage: unknown. The variety with five petals is common, the variety with seven petals is very scarce.
