This specimen was lot 23364 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. Florin, 1948. PCGS MS-65+ Gold Shield. Tremendously gorgeous and immensely pleasing, this exceedingly attractive Gem offers silky luster and a warm, soothing, peripheral tone. A piece for the connoisseur, as it represents the sole finest certified by PCGS for the date. From the Fenton Collection." This florin struck for George VI retained the kiwi reverse introduced with George V. In 1948, the obverse was revised from "GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR" to "KING GEORGE THE SIXTH", and struck in that form until 1951. The denomination was terminated upon decimalization in 1965.
