This specimen was lot 31399 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "Albert I gold 100 Francs 1891-A MS62 NGC, Paris mint. A beautiful example of this large gold type, and a series that remains challenging at the Mint State level, this current offering effortlessly enchants the viewer with illustrative designs, pleasing apricot coloration, and moderate marks for the issue." This type was struck in Paris 1891-1904, allegedly for use in the prince's casino in Monte Carlo. The coin matches the specification of the contemporary France 1887-A 100 francs.
Recorded mintage: 20,000.
Specification: 32.25 g, 0.900 fine gold, .933 troy oz AGW.
