Stephen Album sale 47, lot 879

This specimen was lot 879 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Babur, 3rd reign, 1504-1530, AR shahrukhi, Lahore, AH936, full bold strike without any weakness, very rare in this quality, lovely VF, RR." The shahrukhi was originally a silver coin minted by Shah Rukh of the Timurid Empire (r. 1405-47) and was adopted by the early Mughal Emperors (Babur, Humayan and Akbar). It was eventually superseded by the rupee.
