Künker sale 263, lot 1281

This specimen was lot 1281 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,196 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN-COBURG-EISENACH, HERZOGTUM Johann Ernst, 1633-1638. Reichstaler 1636, Coburg. RR Hübsche Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Eisenach, John Ernest, 1633-38, thaler of 1636, Coburg mint. Rare, toned, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This variety was minted 1636-37. This division of the Saxon lands lasted 1572-1638. Saxe-Neu-Gotha dates from 1640.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
