This specimen was lot 23279 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $6,168.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V gold 12800 Reis 1729-M, AU55 NGC. Scarcer date. Good strike with strong legends and date. Deep orange gold patina. From The RLM Collection." This type was struck in Minas Gerais 1727-33, in Rio 1727-31 and Bahia 1727-30. Tho it is always expensive, it is not rare.

Specification: 28.68 g, 0.917 fine gold, .845 troy oz AGW.
