This specimen was lot 29536 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $910.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "Philip V gold Cob 2 Escudos 1732 SF-(M) Fine, Santa Fe mint. Wholesome with most details clear, including the full 3-digit date on the reverse. Rare and quite desirable since with the aforementioned clear date and unflawed." This type was issued from Bogotá 1717-46. Specimens with legible dates are worth double those without. Many have been made into jewelry and sold as "pirate gold."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.917 fine gold, .199 troy oz, this specimen 6.75 grams.

Catalog reference: Cayón-9725, KM 17.2, Cal-388.
