This specimen was lot 23113 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Pedro II gold 20000 Reis 1850, AU55 NGC. Three-year type. Briefly circulated with tinges of orange-red color on both sides as well as a magenta colored toning streak on the obverse where a vein of copper alloy must have settled." This date, the second of a series struck 1849-51, is among the first moderately priced gold coins of the Empire.
