This specimen was lot 5859 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,228 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RUSSLAND, KAISERREICH, Nikolaus I. 1825-1855. 5 Rubel 1845, St. Petersburg. GOLD. Kl. Randfehler und Kratzer, fast vorzüglich. (empire of Russia, Nicholas I, 1825-55, five rubles of 1845, St. Petersburg mint. Minor edge flaws and scratches, about extremely fine.)"
This type is listed for 1832-46 and is fairly common in circulated condition. Proofs exist. In 1886, the standard was revised to match the French twenty francs d'or, resulting in a weight reduction to .186 troy oz.
Recorded mintage: 2,842,000, a common date.
