from the Stack's Bowers 2022 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73279

This specimen was lot 73279 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description^[1] noted, "BURMA. Pe (1/16 Rupee), CS 1214 (1852). Mindon. PCGS AU-55. An attractive specimen that is rarely encountered in such condition, this example has peacock toning throughout that matches the bird on the obverse. Some slight granularity is noted, but this flaw is so minor as to not distract from the overall eye appeal." This type comes in many varieties, including some struck in gold. Burma was conquered by the British in the 1880's and added to their empire of India. Her independence was restored in 1948 after the British left India.
