This specimen was lot 10365 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $881. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Wurttemberg. 2 Taler, 1871. NGC MS-63. Commemorates the restoration of the Ulm Cathedral. Toned. From the Demarete Collection." Wurttemberg began the issue of the unified empire coinage in 1872 and quckly became a major producer with Prussia and Bavaria. This type, appearing just before unification in 1869 and 1871, is scarce.
Recorded mintage: 4,031.
Specification: 37.12 g, .900 fine silver, edge lettered "XV EIN PFUND FEIN."
