This specimen was lot 4350 in Goldberg sale 74 (Los Angeles, June 2013), where it sold for $414 including buyer's fees. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Württemberg. Taler, 1871. Karl I. Victorious Conclusion of Franco-Prussian War. NGC graded MS-65." This type, the last thaler struck in Wurttemberg, celebrated the victory over France in the Franco-Prussian War. Bremen, Bavaria and Prussia also issued similar thalers.
