This specimen was lot 23849 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,086.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "Maria I & Pedro III gold 6400 Reis 1780-R, AU58 NGC. Uniform in appearance with no noteworthy marks and somewhat flat luster. From The RLM Collection, Part II." This type was struck 1777-86 and is among the more available colonial gold coins of Brazil.
Recorded mintage: 343,000.
Specification: 14.34 g, .917 fine gold, .422 troy oz AGW.
