This specimen was lot 11390 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $329. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centimos, 1935. NGC MS-66 RD. Bronze. Blazing mint red luster. None graded higher at NGC." This bronze ten centavos was also struck 1919-21; all dates are scarce in nice condition. It was issued when silver prices did not permit the circulation of silver ten centavos which were minted 1925-35 (see KM 428). The bronze coins were withdrawn and demonetized in the 1930's in favor of a copper-nickel replacement. There are also similar bronze one, two, five and twenty centavos.
Recorded mintage: 5,970,000, the most common date.
Specification: 12 g, bronze (.950 Cu, .025 Sn, .025 Zn), 30.5 mm diameter, plain edge.
Catalog reference: KM 430.
