CNG Lissner sale, lot 204

This specimen was lot 204 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $266.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Christian IX. 1863-1906. AR 2 Kroner. København (Copenhagen) mint. Vilhelm Burchard Poulsen, mintmaster. Harald Conradsen, engraver. Dated 1897 HC VBP. In NGC encapsulation graded UNC DETAILS. Dark uncirculated." Danish currency endured several "reforms" in the nineteenth century. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = one krone. This type was struck 1875-76, 1897, 1899 for Christian IX (1863-1906) as king of Denmark. It is scarce, scarcer than the contemporary commemoratives such as KM 800. This specimen sold for less than the catalog value, one of the few lots in this sale to do so.

Recorded mintage: 151,000.

Specification: 15 g, .800 fine silver, this specimen 30 mm diameter, 15 g, 12h axis.

Catalog reference: KM 797.2; Y 14.
